Smart Little Pistol, the only living sire of a Triple Crown Champion ...
Thank you for your interest in the Million Dollar Sire, Smart Little Pistol, who sired the NCHA TRIPLE CROWN champion, Chiquita Pistol winner of the NCHA Open Futurity, Super Stakes and Derby. Chiquita Pistol became the first horse since 1984 to sweep the Triple Crown and the first mare to ever accomplish this remarkable feat. Smart Little Pistol's offspring have earned in excess of $1.8 million.
"Purple" stands at Kedon Farms' breeding facility in Weatherford, TX. If you have any questions about stallion fees, mare care, shipped semen, or need to make arrangements for your mare's arrival or departure, please call our office at (817) 598-0283 ext. 104. Please note: To ensure all paperwork is completed prior to departure, 48 hours notice is required before your mare leaves Kedon Farms.
In light of the recent outbreak of Equine Viral Arteritis in New Mexico and Utah, we at Kedon Farms have taken the following steps to limit the possibility of such an outbreak during the 2008 breeding season at our facility:
1) All resident stallions have been tested negative (serum neutralization) to EVA and simultaneously vaccinated with Fort Dodge Arvac Vaccine at least 30 days prior to the breeding season.
2) All stallions from which we receive fresh cooled or frozen semen will have been tested negative to EVA and simultaneously vaccinated at least 30 days prior to collection.
3) All non-pregnant mares will preferably be tested for EVA and vaccinated 30 days prior to their arrival at Kedon Farms. A negative test will also be accepted. This test must have been done within the last 30 days and Kedon Farms has the option of retesting (at their discretion).
Before your mare can be bred Kedon Farms must receive the following information:
Preparing your mares for the breeding farm:
1. To encourage dry mares to cycle earlier, place under 16 hours of light and 8 hours of darkness per day, starting in December.
2. Make arrangements with a veterinarian to check your mare's cycle prior to her arrival at the farm (and yes, we have received a few pregnant ones...)
3. Be sure your mare's vaccination records are current. All mares must have a Veterinarian's Health Certificate, Coggins test, Rhino Pneuminitis, and West Nile Virus shot before they arrive. Your mare also needs to be wormed. (Check with your vet regarding worming pregnant mares). If your mare's records are not available when she is sent to the farm our vet will administer the tests, etc. at the mare owner's expense. (Why pay twice?)
4. To save unnecessary mare care charges; we suggest you have a culture done on your mare to detect any problems before she is sent to the farm.

Shipped Semen:
Thank you for your interest in SMART LITTLE PISTOL'S shipped semen. If you have any questions regarding shipped semen please call Donna at: 817-304-3550.
Transported Cooled Semen Information:
1. A non-refundable booking fee of $600.00 (made payable to Kedon
Farms) and a copy of your mare's registration papers must
be returned to the farm with all copies of the shipped semen contract.
Upon approval a copy will be returned for your records.
2. Smart Little Pistol's stud fee on shipped semen mares will
include 1 shipment of semen.
3. There is a non-refundable fee of $450.00 for each additional
shipment of cooled transported semen.
4. There is a one-time non-refundable container fee of $100.00.
The Equitainer must be Fed Ex'd back to Kedon Farms within five
business days of receipt. After five days, a late fee of $50.00
per day will be applied. The Equitainer must be returned with
all contents left inside except the semen vial.
6. Please note that cooled semen will be shipped February 15 through
July 18.
7. Requests for shipments of cooled transported semen must be
made by 12:00 NOON AT LEAST 48 HOURS PRIOR TO SHIPPING DATE.
It is VERY important that you call the day before to let us know
that you will need semen. An early morning follow-up confirmation
(before 9:00 a.m.) on collection day is appreciated. SMART LITTLE
PISTOL is collected every MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY
and SATURDAY and there are no exceptions. It will be the
mare owner and his/her veterinarian's responsibility to confirm
our breeding/shipping days.
8. Make arrangements with your veterinarian to ultrasound your
mare on a daily basis as she begins to cycle.
9. To encourage dry mares to cycle earlier, place under 16 hours
of light and 8 hours of darkness per day starting in December.
Kedon Farms must receive the following 10 days prior to shipment of semen:
A) Cooled Transported Semen Contract completed
with a copy of mare's registration papers.
B) Stud fee and booking fee paid in full.
C) $100.00 container fee.
D) Name, address and phone number of your Veterinarian.
E) Name, address and phone number, of the veterinary clinic or
breeding facility where semen is to be shipped.
